NEW CRAZE FROM JAPAN LANDS IN SOHO:

"Custom Urban Vinyl Sculptures"
Performance Exhibition & Reception at Animazing Gallery

New York , NY , July 2007 – Cartoon Imagery, Tribal modernism, and boundless creativity collide harmoniously on a variety of chubby dolls that are used as an altogether new kind of palate to create Custom Urban Vinyl sculptures by Daniel “Wavedog” Fenelon. Thousands of these "naked" dolls roll off of an assembly line in Japan every day, where they are collected and traded on line, like the beenie babies were, but this is the first time an artist has taken the funny fellows "out of the box" to embellish with additional parts, accessories and use them as a canvas the way Fenelon does. He will do it all in the middle of the gallery showroom on Saturday, July 14th, from 2PM-6PM at Animazing Gallery in Soho. Refreshments will be served at the gallery, which is located at 461 Broome Street, between Greene & Mercer in Soho. The exhibition is free and open to the public, and runs through Labor Day, 2007.

The invigorating, playful, and sophisticated artistry on cute and wild creatures propelled a new style of contemporary 3-D artwork into prominence within the international art community, where it has garnered respect and praise.

Daniel Fenelon was trained at the Arts Student League in NY, and at the Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston. It is the intertwining of his prestigious art education with his boundless inventive techniques that makes Fenelon a refined yet revolutionary artist, who exudes creative energy, talent and imagination.

Each one of Fenelon’s creations is unique. He intricately paints his famous tribal patterns on cast resin dolls, which he then embellishes with ornamentation in the form of wood sculpted headpieces, metal spikes and additional objects that infuse each figure with a distinctive personality. Wavedog has created a universe of distinct, one of kind sculptural creatures that amaze and delight the youngest of fans, while also capturing the admiration of the most urbane fine art collectors.
