Comics Legend, Will Eisner, Dies at 87
Monday, January 3, 2005

Will Eisner, viewed by many to be the "father of modern comics", passed away on January 3rd, 2005 at the age of 87 following quadruple bypass heart surgery.

A compelling visual storyteller, Eisner is considered to be one of the most influential comic book artists of all time. He has been called "the Leonardo of the comic-book form" and the "single person most responsible for giving comics its brains."

A true giant in comics, he will be missed, personally and professionally.
Will Eisner has been a pioneering force in comics for over sixty years. His career spans groundbreaking work in early newspaper comics (The Spirit) to mature graphic novels like A Contract with God : And Other Tenement Stories, and Fagin the Jew.

Will Eisner was born March 6, 1917 in Brooklyn, NY. The son of Jewish immigrants, his early life and experiences growing up in New York tenements would become the inspiration for much of his graphic novel work.
