MICKEY GETS SHOCKED…
Disney Artist David Willardson Performs at Animazing Gallery with Michelle Shocked

NEW YORK, NY – September 21, 2005 – The Art world is going to get rocked at Animazing Gallery in SoHo on Friday, October 14th at 7:00pm; “Mickey Gets Shocked” opens with a performance painting by renowned Disney Artist David Willardson as he paints accompanied by the live music of the outspoken Recording Artist Michelle Shocked.

SoHo's Animazing Gallery, located at 461 Broome Street (between Greene and Mercer Streets) will host the opening reception for the artist on Friday, October 14th between 7:00pm and 9:00pm. A second performance on Saturday from 2:00 – 4:00pm will be open to the public. RSVP is suggested to (212) 226-7374.

Willardson will paint a large canvas as Michelle performs songs from her latest release, “Got No Strings On Me;” a compilation of classic Disney songs with a “Shocking” twist, if you will…

Michelle Shocked set forth on her musical journey at a very young age; her forte is undoubtedly songwriting, and the ability to captivate an audience and instill in them all the knowledge that; “Music is the love and the laughter that binds us all!” She is Yoda, and music is the force, and it is true that her zillions of fans believe it! Somehow, she has redefined the laws of musical correctness by delightfully blending rock, country, blues, folk, swing and all manner of indigenous

American music. Shocked's pioneering vision and the conventional music business proved to be a combination like oil and water, so she just does whatever pleases her. And David Willardson’s artwork pleases her. She is a big fan, and the creative juice that flows between her and the painter is a whole new inspiration for them both. David Willardson began his career in entertainment art with his talent opening doors after he created globally recognized images such as the “Raiders of the Lost Ark” movie logo and the all-American classic “American Graffiti” car hop.

In the 1970’s, David was asked to do a painting of Goofy by and advertising agency for Walt Disney World. Jeffrey Katzenburg, then head of animation at Disney, saw the ad and immediately commissioned David to paint the major movie posters for blockbuster animated movies such as Bambi, Cinderella, Snow White, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and The Lion King to name a few. Fifteen years have passed since then, and David is now considered to be one of Disney’s brightest stars.

David creates a new genre of art he calls “Pep Art.” While Pop Art incorporates elements of modern pop culture and the mass media into various works, Pep Art brings energetic color and a vigorous graphic painting style together while melding with modern pop culture and mass media.

David’s success brought him a rare and welcomed opportunity. Disney Animation saw the talent and fresh new look that David brought to life with his paintbrush bringing classic characters new life and with the inspiration of a contemporary master. With Disney’s support David’s first gallery exhibition in the United States at Animazing Gallery in 2002 launched a successful international tour, with two sold out shows in Japan.

David Willardson’s Disney work is exclusively published by Collectors Editions in Canoga Park, CA.

An exhibition of these new paintings by David Willardson will be on display through the holiday season; in addition to the collection of works by Willardson that Animazing Gallery already has on its walls.
